Holiday Cards in Non-Traditional Colors

If you make your own cards you are probably in the planning stages, if you haven’t already started. I love being able to create cards using paper scraps, and holiday cards are no exception. I have three cards for you using non-traditional colors from Our Memories for Life collections. One uses a Christmas collection, but the other two do not. So keep reading to see how you can make the most of all your supplies when creating holiday cards.

This first card uses the Joyous Noel by Katie Pertiet collection. When I think of Christmas colors, red and green are the first to pop into my brain. Gold is definitely a color seen during the holidays, but doesn’t always get center stage like it does on this card.

With cards, I typically use pieces of cardstock, journal cards, and border strips, which may make it hard to tell what was used. You can see in this image that two cardstock designs were used and a border strip. And you’re about to learn how addicted I am to sequins, especially during the holidays when a little sparkle is the perfect touch on most projects.

I love pink and green! And for the holidays, they are a fun change that can brighten your cards and other creations. For this card I used cardstock from the Party Brights by Katie Pertiet with the Snowflake Kiss Pocket Paper Punch. If you can find something that screams holiday, like a snowflake, it makes creating with non-traditional colors a breeze!

Here you can see that in addition to the Party Brights by Katie Pertiet cardstock and Snowflake Pocket Paper Punch, the card’s sentiment is a stamp from the November 2015 Stamp Set from Anthology by Lisa Bearnson. And of course, sequins to add a little twinkle (they are of the pink variety to tie in with the color combination on the card).

The final card for today uses products from Miracles and Milestones by Katie Pertiet. The teal color feels wintery to me and I love the tan polka dots. Again, making non-traditional colors work is all about selling it by adding sentiments and accents that feel holiday-like. In addition to sequins, I love doilies! They are elegant and playful depending on how you use them. Here, the doily has a snowflake feel and the swirls in the journal card give the card a breezy feel.

The supplies for this card were simple – cardstock, journal card, doily, and sequins. I did trim a piece of teal cardstock to 8 1/2 x 11 to print my sentiment, which I punched with a 1 3/4″ circle punch. In case you didn’t notice in the supply photos, several of them used scrap paper (pieces left over from previous projects), which is a great way to take advantage of those scraps. So don’t throw your leftovers away – save them and make a quick card.
